Seattle Super Saunter, West Seattle
When I first heard about the Seattle Super Saunter this spring, I was so inspired!
The goals are positive, and my summary is this: get people out walking in the community and enjoying the beautiful city of Seattle. I knew the big Seattle Super Saunter route, covering about 23 miles was too much for my current stamina. But, that didn't keep me from participating for just over 7 miles of it in May! Then, I heard they'd picked a date for July to do a shorter route in West Seattle, 12 miles. Of course, I was hooked and so happy to have my husband, Casey, and two of our friends join us.
For this adventure, I chose to bring along my Grandpa's vintage Contax camera and used 35mm Fuji Film to document the fun. My first love is film photography, and while I learned with it, my confidence feels rusty after nearly 20 years using digital cameras primarily. So this was a chance practice, and share what my current style is in film documenting an event.
My focus with these photos was to share a bit of the beautiful scenery along the route, and a portrait of the organizer, Holden at the starting point. These 6 are my favorite, and are my no means a comprehensive collection. By the time we got about half way through, or just over 6 miles, my focus really became completing the walk and less about photographing it!
Film focus
After this event, my motivation to do more film is ignited! I'm working a few more "practice" events and plan to add this as a new photography service this winter.
