Beauty of Age Portrait Project
The inspiration:
After losing my mom to cancer at the age of 57, and her sister just a few years before that at the age of 53, I spent time thinking about what their early deaths taught me. And I also reflected on how hard they worked to maintain their health and beauty. I was then inspired with this photography project idea. Their short lives have taught me that aging is a gift.
Sometimes no matter how well you care for your health, your lifespan is not guaranteed. Yes, we should all take good care of our bodies, but I wish we could unburden our culture of this sense that youthfulness is the standard.
The Beauty of Age focuses on celebrating women who are confident with their beauty between these specific years, 50-100 years old. The reason for this age range is because I think it’s the time when our youthful focused culture starts to look away.
I want to see more women, confident and proud of their laugh lines!

Project Status:
I started this project in 2018 and photographed my 25th woman in early March 2020. Then I had to put this project on pause due to the Pandemic. With my studio now being open and business finding stability, I decided to relaunch this project with my studio opening anniversary in March 2025!
Now, I'm looking for women who wish to share the beauty of their age - who are willing to come to West Seattle and sit for a portrait. I use my film camera and studio lighting to create a unique and special kind of consistency through the series. I have spaces open for ages ranging from 51-99 years old.
